UWEZO FUND-A FAILURE FROM THE START

The government of Kenya has released 6 billion for youth and women to be lent as loans. The loan is meant to reduce unemployment and improve the living standards of the marginalized groups. I wholly acknowledge the idea is noble but it seems the idea might not benefit many due to the following reasons:
  • The members of parliament-commonly called Mpigs in the streets, have got their way into the kitty. They will be the patrons of the fund, they will appoint the kitty allocation committee among other functions. Am sure they will appoint their kinsmen to lead the committee and try to get political publicity using the kitty. Do not not be surprised if 50% of the total 6billion goes to "capacity building", allowances for the members of the allocation committee....blah blah-meaning all the money has gone to the pockets of MPigs, their kinsmen and supporters.
  • The loans are given to only youth and women group. A group must have between7- 15 members. This is a problem. It is very unlikely that the finances will be properly managed by 15 "equal partners" in a business. The youth and women groups tend to be full of personal ideologies, personal issues etc. misunderstandings is challenge No.1 facing them. I wish the government considered serious youth and women who have sole proprietorships, partnerships and companies that have less than even 5 members. 15 members being equal partners is a poison for a business; it means the CEO running the business operations as well as politics and back biting.
  • A loan of 50,000 given to 15 people? Seriously??? That is a joke!!!! I understand it sounds a lot to a village young man. But before you throw stones at me, think of how you can invest ksh.3,000 loan. Is it enough to create a job for you? Was it not wiser for the government to reduce business name registration charges from the sh.900 or company registration fees? I understand to start a company that sends SMS like pendo, songs, quotes etc. you need sh.140,000 for license alone!!!!  Just visit Attorney General's chambers and see how much is charged to get a license to run a website.
GOVERNMENT PLEASE: CREATE AN ENABLING ENVIRONMENT NOT DISHING OUT MONEY THAT HAS NOWHERE IT CAN BE INVESTED
